The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Just Answered the Darkest Question Fans Had, and It Was Gross
The Walking Dead franchise never shied away from sickening scenes, but the recent demonstration in Episode 2 of Daryl Dixon was too much even if it answered an old fan question.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
Out of all the popular zombie franchises, The Walking Dead is arguably both the most popular and the most keen on being realistic…well, as far as realism goes when we’re talking about the Earth being overtaken by infinite hoards of the undead. Despite that, TWD has always tried to remain as grounded as possible in this case.
At the same time, The Walking Dead is famous — or notorious, depending on who you ask — for its gruesome scenes, unsettling revelations, and demonstrations of the most sickening implications of a zombie apocalypse. Some fans love this aspect of the show, and others turn away from their screens during the most troubling sequences.
These two sides of the same coin named “The Walking Dead” led to an interesting result: fans are genuinely curious to learn the cogs and wheels of this zombie-infested world and understand how the virus works. Typically, you don’t bother with that in a zombie franchise, but TWD just feels too real not to wonder about these things.
Among the most common points of interest for fans are the various “what if” scenarios. “What would happen if (insert a mildly unsettling suggestion) and one or the other was infected?” Over the years of The Walking Dead’s existence, we’ve already learned the answers to many such questions, but there’s always more.
The Daryl Dixon spin-off finally answered one of those 13-year-old questions, namely, “What would happen if a bitten and already transformed woman were to give birth?” It sounds insane because it is, but the scenario itself seems rather likely in a zombie apocalypse, so people were wondering — and Daryl Dixon’s Episode 2 provided an answer.
This episode revealed Laurent’s origin story, and apparently, he was born under these exact circumstances: as shown in the flashback, his mother was already transformed when he was giving birth, and Laurent made it alive thanks to the nuns that strapped his zombie mother and helped the poor baby get out of the womb.
Not to get into much detail, the entire sequence was as dark and sickening as it gets, and we’re not exactly happy to have learned the answer this way. But hey, at least we know it now — and what’s more interesting is that Laurent might have some weird abilities due to his rather unorthodox birth. Whatever those may be, we’ll see them soon enough.
Potentially, this might be a game-changer for both the Daryl Dixon spin-off and the world of The Walking Dead in general, especially if Laurent is now 100% immune.
