In the case of feature films, many actresses do not get roles due to pregnancy. As for TV series,when the stars who are loved by the fans become pregnant in the middle of filming the project, it is almost impossible to replace them, so the writers have to change the plot to suit their situation.

Sometimes this only makes the story better, but sometimes it becomes the reason for very strange and illogical writing decisions.

Caroline’s Pregnancy Broke All The Vampire Diaries ’ Rules

In the seventh season of The Vampire Diaries, Caroline unexpectedly finds herself pregnant, even though in the story she is a vampire and cannot conceive a child. Such a plot twist was made because Candice King, who played Caroline, got pregnant in real life.

That’s how the writers explained Caroline's pregnancy: the twins, who were Alaric and Jo’s, were magically transferred into her body, as Jo, before she died, managed to cast a powerful spell.

While one can understand the decision of the show's creators, this arc is still causing a lot of discussion among the fans, and for good reason.

First, the writers violated the rules of their own world – the characters mentioned many times that vampires cannot get pregnant or give birth. In Caroline's case, there was no explanation of how she, as a vampire, managed to carry and give birth to twins.

Caroline & Alaric Relationship Was Downright Strange

Also, Alaric and Caroline started a romantic relationship, and they did not seem like the perfect couple at all. Probably, when the writers brought them together, they thought they had a great plot twist. But in reality, it turned out to be a very strange decision.

The couple looked unnatural, and there was no trace of romance or chemistry between them. When the two were thinking about getting married, Alaric wanted to live in separate bedrooms, not to mention the fact that a few years before these events, Alaric was Caroline's teacher and literally a father figure to her best friend Elena.

Caroline probably had the longest history of romantic relationships of any character on The Vampire Diaries, but Alaric was clearly an unnecessary addition to her boyfriend list.

Many fans agree that seasons 7 and 8 of the series had a large number of questionable writing choices, but the story of Caroline and Alaric still remains the writers' biggest mistake.
