The Stranger Reveal in The Rings of Power Finale Sparks Fury Among Fans
Mostly because of how predictable it was.

The eighth and final episode of The Rings of Power season 1 has finally shed light on the identity of the Stranger, proving many fan speculations that he was indeed an Istari — translated as "wise" or "wizard".
Although the finale did not explicitly confirm that he was Gandalf — something that many fans believe to be true — fans are still disappointed with the way the show handled the character's arc.
"[In my opinion], it was obvious. And if you know the books/lore or even just the films I have to ask what was the point of the mystery boxes?" Redditor HuTao66 said.
Besides, the reveal of the Stranger's identity (kind of) immediately ruined the mystery of Sauron for people — even though there wasn't so much to be ruined.
"Yeah as soon as they called The Stranger an Istar i knew it was Halbrand immediately. Tbh tho i saw it coming from a mile away," Twitter user Agitated_Panda said.
The Stranger can end up being Saruman, Gandalf, or Radagast — unless, of course, The Rings of Power does not decide to pick a new path for the character. However, fans are almost confident that he is Gandalf, mainly because of his final phrase in the episode: "When in doubt, Eleanor Brandyfoot, always follow your nose."
It's not like there was anything unexpected for the viewers, but it seems that's precisely the reason for their disappointment after the finale. According to the majority of fans, episode 8 failed to provide any surprises — something that people usually expect from the final episodes.
Anyway, The Rings of Power is now heading into season 2, which is already written, and the shooting process is ongoing. The premiere date, however, is yet to be announced.
