Even shows with highly positive ratings are not safe.

New Amsterdam was a lifesaver for those who were tired of Grey's Anatomy and other long-running medical dramas and wanted to see new faces and new stories on the screen.

However, the show was canceled after its fifth season, which surprised many, as New Amsterdam received consistently high ratings.

However, there were some very clear reaons for this to happen.

First, two prominent characters left the show – Vijay Kapoor, played by Anupam Kher for three seasons, and the main character's love interest, Dr. Helen Sharpe, played by Freema Agyeman, who left the show after the fourth season, breaking the hearts of many fans.

In addition, the scriptwriters included COVID-19 in the narrative, which may also turn off some viewers who were already tired of seeing the pandemic in real life.

As a result, the ratings remained positive, but the number of viewers decreased. The last two seasons, in particular, have seen a harsh decline in ratings, with 2.8 million viewers, compared to 8 million for the first season.

Now, however, shows like New Amsterdam are not doomed to a brutal and final death and oblivion after being canceled.

The final season of the series appeared on Netflix in the middle of the winter of 2023, collecting an impressive number of streams – 4 billion in January and February.

Such unexpected popularity even led to a Turkish remake of New Amsterdam.

New Amsterdam tells the story of the chief physician Max Goodwin, who takes a position in an old New York hospital, which called New Amsterdam.

New Amsterdam is a series in the tradition of the good old House, M. D., Scrubs and Grey's Anatomy.

In the center of the plot is the figure of a tough, unbending and principled doctor who tries with all his might to make the world a little better, while there are plenty of dramas, scandals, intrigues, and novels to go around.

Doctors, who might look like gods to some, turn out to be vulnerable people with a lot of weaknesses.
