The Office’s Biggest Angela & Dwight Plot Hole Finally Solved by Redditors
Angela and Dwight’s story had its ups and downs, but one inconsistency still haunts fans.
Over the course of nine seasons of The Office, Dwight Schrute, who at first seems like the most stable character, goes through one of the show's most interesting character development arcs. From a cynical and frankly unpleasant corporate worker, and a clearly over-the-top character, he becomes a very peculiar, yet humane and not at all negative hero.
And his romance with Angela – originally used as a comedic parallel to Jim and Pam's "serious" arc – eventually became as important to the show as the love story between the two main characters. In fact, this romantic storyline was so popular with fans that the show's creators decided to use it to wrap up The Office.
But no matter how much the audience loved Angela and Dwight's duet, one inconsistency in their story haunted many.
DNA Test Confirmed The Baby Wasn’t Dwight’s
In the eighth season, Angela became pregnant, and while most of the characters and viewers were sure that the child would be Robert Lipton's, the screenwriters saved a pleasant surprise. In the end, it was revealed that Angela was pregnant with Dwight's baby, but a mix-up with the DNA test left many viewers confused. Moreover, the show's creators never gave a clear answer to the mystery.
From the beginning, Dwight was sure the child was his because he had his facial features. However, in the episode Free Family Portrait Studio, when Dwight managed to get the baby's diaper and do a DNA test, it turned out that he was not the father.
Some fans assumed that the test gave a false result because Dwight had previously said that he was a chimera, meaning that he had absorbed his twin in the womb and thus received two sets of DNA. Well, this version is wild enough to be part of Dwight's life story.
Dwight Just Took the Wrong Diaper
However, the solution turned out to be much simpler.
“They had it in the script that Dwight grabbed the wrong diaper (taking a diaper from Jim and Pam's son Philip instead of Angela and Dwight's Philip),” Reddit user Penti87 revealed.
In addition, the entire sequence with the family photo day was arranged so that both children would be in the office. However, the scene where Dwight takes the wrong diaper was eventually cut, leading to a misunderstanding. This theory was also confirmed by one of the directors of The Office, so now fans can rest easy.
