The Office Reboot Just Got a Second Chance After Disappointing Steve Carell Update
Maybe it won’t be that bad after all.
In the era of reboots, revivals and remakes, it was only a matter of time before the creators of the greatest sitcom of the 2010s, The Office, came calling. The NBC hit has become a holy grail for many fans around the world and is still remembered in memes, references and easter eggs in other TV projects.
However, since the show is not being revived with the same cast, but is being rebooted with a completely different setting and completely different characters, viewers are already skeptical about watching it. What's worse, the absence of Steve Carell's Michael Scott was seen as one of the fatal flaws that could immediately sink the reboot.
Will The Office Original Characters Come Back for Reboot?
Right now, there is no news indicating any of the original cast members of the show being back. Steve Carell, who portrayed the heart and soul of the show, the unprofessional yet very entertaining manager Michael Scott, has already confirmed he will not be back. Other cast members haven’t even been approached.
It is clear that the show wants to separate itself from the original one, and maybe that is the right call to avoid constant comparisons. Besides, two actors who have been rumored to lead the new show have more than enough to offer.
Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore have reportedly joined the cast already. While Impacciatore’s involvement is yet to be officially confirmed, Carell, who previously worked with Gleeson on the FX thriller The Patient, could confirm his co-star’s involvement. He mentioned it during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“I know Domhnall Gleeson, who I did The Patient with, is going to be one of the leads. I know that for sure. He’s an excellent actor. He actually called me and asked, you know, ‘Should I do this? Did you enjoy it? He’s great,” Carell said.
Given the number of fans Gleeson is likely to bring to the show, and all the accolades the actor has received for his past projects, there is no doubt that no matter how The Office reboot is written, the acting will be up to par with what viewers were used to in the original show.
If you are ready to give The Office reboot a chance, keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates on the show's revival. Until it is out, you can always come back to the original series, streaming on Peacock as well.
