Is The Incredible Hulk really underrated?

The Incredible Hulk is now streaming on Disney Plus. It’s unclear if Disney only reverted the rights for the movie or the character as well. But it's just the right time to revisit the film and figure out if it truly lived up to its "incredible" title.

The Incredible Hulk hit the big screen in 2008, right after the first MCU ’s movie, Iron Man.

Many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe believe that The Incredible Hulk is a bit underrated. Well, it is actually quite easy to forget this movie even existed, and there are some reasons for it.

In The Incredible Hulk, Bruce Banner was portrayed by Edward Norton. He was a big name back then, certainly bigger than Robert Downey Jr. His performance as the troubled scientist was top-notch, but he eventually was replaced with Mark Ruffalo.

The recasting really threw some people off and got them questioning if this movie is even a part of the MCU.

Not only did we get a different actor playing Bruce Banner in the MCU, Hulk himself looked entirely different when he next appeared in Avengers (2012). For Avengers, they actually used motion capture technology to make Hulk actually look like Mark Ruffalo.

In contrast, the green smasher looked nothing like Edward Norton in The Incredible Hulk, which was one of the reasons it got criticized.

The CGI in the movie is decent overall, but there are some moments that feel like you're watching a video game cutscene. It's definitely not as impressive as the CGI in Iron Man, even though they had a similar budget.

Another reason why The Incredible Hulk got kind of ignored over time is because it stands out a lot compared to the other movies in the MCU. And that's actually a good thing since most of the franchise's films tend to be pretty similar these days.

Another blunder that many fans pointed out was the lackluster villain, Emil Blonsky, played by Tim Roth. Blonsky started as an intriguing character, but his transformation into the Abomination felt too rushed.

And don't even get us started on what they've done with him in She-Hulk.

Even though The Incredible Hulk has its fair share of issues, it's still a significant part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So if you've got a Disney Plus subscription, it's worth giving it a shot, even if you've seen it before.
