However, there is another solution to staying in the beloved universe: going even further back in history and creating a prequel. Fortunately for fans of The Crown and period dramas in general, Peter Morgan is not opposed to the idea. As he shared in an interview for Variety's cover story, it is an idea he may entertain in the future:

“I do have an idea. But first, I need to do some other things. Second, it would need a unique set of circumstances to come together. <...> If I were to go back into ‘The Crown,’ it would definitely be to go back in time,” the writer stated.

It's easy to believe that Morgan, who is already known for his extensive knowledge of the lives of British monarchs, would be willing to wade into this river once again. Although viewers may have to have the patience to wait for these "unique circumstances" to come to life, the end result will always be worth the wait.

The first part of the final season of The Crown is already less than a month away, premiering on Netflix on November 16. The second part, including the grand finale, will hit your screens on December 14.
