The Boys ’ Homelander gets more and more insane with each season. While fans are anticipating the Prime Video series’ fourth season, they don't seem to stop speculating and making up theories.
One burning question has been recently asked on Reddit: Why doesn't Homelander just take over the US? With his superhuman abilities, it seems like a piece of cake, doesn’t it? Well, fans believe it doesn’t.
This is actually one of the most popular theories on what might happen to Homelander after Season 3. In the finale, he publicly murdered a civilian, and we know that he will face charges. If he is proved guilty and loses people’s support, he will have nothing to lose.
Hypothetically speaking, there might not be much stopping Homelander from conquering the world. But the best point made on Reddit is that Homelander thrives on the love and adoration of his fans. If he were to force his way into power, he'd instill fear, but he wouldn't get the love he so desperately craves.
One user drew a parallel with elephants. Just like an elephant tied to a wooden spike from a young age believes it can't break free even when it grows up, Homelander, raised in a lab by Vought, might have been conditioned to believe certain limitations about himself.
Over the seasons, we see these restraints weakening, but they still play a role in his actions.
Taking over a company is one thing, but ruling a country is a whole different ball game. Homelander might not be interested in the intricacies of governance, laws, or foreign policies.
He's more about the media wars and being in the limelight. Plus, there's the risk of losing more support than he gains, potential resistance, and who knows what the military might have up its sleeve.
While Homelander is undoubtedly powerful, he's not invincible. Fans believe there are other supes out there who can challenge him. Maeve, for instance, managed to draw blood from him with a piece of metal. And let's not forget the potential counters like Temp V and Soldier Boy's power.
