It seems that Amazon didn't allow as much creative freedom in the beginning as they do now.

The Boys TV series has become quite notorious throughout its three season run for featuring scenes that are both hilarious and shocking at the same time, with the creators pushing the boundaries more and more each season.

And after such memorable moments in season 3 as an exploding penis or M.M. being splashed from head to toe in male bodily fluids, fans can only wonder what the creators have in store for them in season 4.

But apparently Amazon was much more careful not to cross the line at first, and some of those scenes had to be removed, as this Reddit AMA session with the show's creator, Eric Kripke, suggests.

It seems that we could have gotten the iconic scene from the season 2 finale with Homelander masturbating on a skyscraper much earlier in the series.

According to Kripke, it was supposed to take place in episode 2 of season 1, and they even shot it, but Amazon was extremely against it at the time. As the creator put it, "That may have been the ONLY fight he lost in season 1."

Luckily, the scene eventually made it into the show, giving us a very memorable season 2 finale, though the circumstances leading up to it were quite different, with Homelander frustrated over losing Stormfront and his son, rather than being scolded by Madelyn Stillwell as originally intended.

Obviously, with the show becoming a huge success, Amazon began to give the creators more freedom, which only benefited the show in the long run.

It will be hard to top the insanity we've already seen, but fans have hope for the creators and can't wait for the show to return.

The Boys season 4 release date hasn't been announced yet, but it's expected to be sometime in early 2024.
