Knock, knock. Who is there?

The Big Bang Theory is considered one of the best sitcoms of all time. Fans binge-watch the show's 279 episodes and laugh at the show's jokes as if they had just heard them for the first time.

However, the things that made them like the show even more were the quirks and odds of the main characters.

Their special traits that made them who they were. And needless to say that Sheldon Cooper was the one who got the most of these traits.

Some of them were actually disturbing. Like his germophobia that caused a lot of unpleasant moments for his friends.

Some of them were actually cute, like when he offered a "hot beverage" to any person that he understood was being upset.

But the most iconic and actually quite annoying for the characters of the show quirk was the three-time-knocking thing. Fans claim that it was the most bizarre thing that Sheldon did over the years.

Although this kind of behavior seems only natural for a nerd-centrom sitcom's main character, the truth is that this particular thing wasn't even scripted!

Producer Lee Aronsohn revealed that it just happened on the spot.

"It was just one of those things where the stage direction was Sheldon knocks on the door, Penny answers. And I just said, "What if he does this?" And I demonstrated that instead of one knock and Penny opens the door, it was three knocks. It showed Sheldon's obsessive compulsiveness," he shared in Jessica Radloff's The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series.

Sheldon's knocking routine was first introduced in the show's season 2, and it quickly became one of the genius weirdo's favorite habits and actually was the source of many hilarious scenes.

However, later the creators of the show have decided to put a darker spin on it by revealing its true origins.

The thing is that as Sheldon established in Big Bang Theory, once he was 13 he returned home early for spring break and walked in on his father having an affair with another woman.

And that was the moment when he vowed never to barge into a room without knocking.
