A perfect example of how to ruin a great character.

One of the reasons The Big Bang Theory has been so successful over the years is because of its characters. All of them were very distinct and different from each other, they were unique and easy to relate to. Viewers could relate to them and empathize with them, which made the show worth watching.

Although many still argue about the need to add more characters and change the dynamic of the group in season 3 when Amy and Bernadette were introduced, their characters stayed and helped create two more love stories. Both ended up being turning points in the development of the characters.

One could argue that nothing could have made Jim Parsons' Sheldon Cooper less entertaining, but without Amy Farrah Fowler and their relationship, he might have been stuck in a constant state of sarcastic comic relief.

Do you think Amy and Bernadette were a good addition to TBBT?

Howard Wolowitz, on the other hand, would have had it much worse without falling in love with Bernadette Rostenkowski and experiencing all the ups and downs of family life. His most impressive growth over the 11 years of the show has a lot to do with learning to be supportive and respectful of women.

If it weren't for Bernadette's character, Howard would be in great danger of sticking to his old ways and remaining a slightly perverted friend of the group who makes you cringe every time they open their mouths.

However, it's safe to say that Bernadette has her fair share of haters. While some of them simply believe that Howard was better off the way he was written in the beginning, others suggest a criticism of her character that is actually worth noting.

Over the years, Bernadette has become a carbon copy of Howard's mother, known not only for her loud mouth but also for her relentless bullying of her son and everyone around him. Starting out as a sweet and very smart girl, Bernie followed in her footsteps and ended up as a menace.

Love her or hate her, Melissa Rauch's character can't be taken out of the show, because The Big Bang Theory just wouldn't be the same without Bernadette. If you want to watch the show again, you can stream it on Netflix or MAX.
