Tarantino Dubbed This Series 'Greatest British Import' & And It’s Impossible to Guess
You would never think that the director is the intended audience of this show.
As a kid, Quentin Tarantino often went to the local movie theater. They showed B-movies, horror and blaxploitation. And at home, he mostly read pulp fiction – for example, Elmore Leonard, the master of crime fiction.
In his youth, the director continued to explore different genres of cinema. He watched bizarre foreign action films, Hollywood classics, French New Wave films, and Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns.
For Tarantino, there is no division between low and high art. And his movies reflect that perfectly.
Quentin Tarantino Praises This Unlikely Animated Series
Quentin Tarantino regularly talks about the movies he loves, including naming The Social Network and Dunkirk as the best films of the 2010s.
But no matter how eclectic the director's tastes, no one expected Tarantino to watch an animated series about an adorable pink pig. Yes, we're talking about Peppa Pig. In an interview with Empire, Tarantino said:
“I actually do like Peppa Pig; I watch it a lot. I'll say it – Peppa Pig is the greatest British import of this decade.”
Surprised? Well, that's what we call range. It's worth noting, however, that Quentin is watching Peppa Pig with his son, Leo, and not as a new cinematic experience.
Peppa Pig Is So Popular With Children That It Has Created Its Own “Effect”
If your daughter's room looks like Elsa's castle from Frozen and your son's is filled with Avengers figurines, then you have a good idea of what children's unbridled love of animations and movies can lead to.
Peppa Pig is the main character of a British children's cartoon series who lives with her parents and is friends with a sheep. Although the show has been on the air since 2004, its popularity with young viewers has not waned.
Peppa Pig is not only a favorite of the Tarantino family. American parents have noticed that when children watch Peppa Pig for a long time, they begin to speak... with a British accent.
Adults began to share their observations on X: it turned out that in most families where the kids watch the famous cartoon about Peppa's adventures, they often imitate the English accent.
“Today I saw a four year old patient in the clinic with her mother. Whilst chatting, I noticed she had a British accent. "Weird" I think, neither her mum or dad are British. The cause for this? She has been watching A LOT of Peppa Pig this year,” noted X user RossDoesHisBest.
This phenomenon has become so widespread that it has been given its own name – The Peppa Effect.
