Some are sunshine, others are midnight rain.

While the TV series largely follows the overarching narrative of Jenny Han's beloved book series, it also introduces its own storylines and changes that keep viewers engaged and surprised.

Here are 5 things that the previous seasons of The Summer I Turned Pretty have already altered for the upcoming Season 3.

5. Laurel’s Career

While Laurel's professional life is highlighted in the show, it's not mentioned in the books. In the show, she is a published author and continues writing in season two, using her grief to create a novel about Susannah.

It's obvious that in season three we can expect more about the outcome of her novel and the changes it brings to her life.

4. Belly And Taylor's Friendship

In the TV series, the meaningful friendship between Belly and Taylor is a highlight, but it is in contrast to the books, where the constant fighting and Taylor's harsh attitude change their relationship and make it more superficial.

Book-Taylor is less supportive and often critical of Belly, with a diminished role in Belly's present life, shown mostly through flashbacks. This means that Season 3 will keep developing the girl-power duo and give us more genuine moments between the girls.

3. Belly’s Virginity

The TV adaptation differs massively from the books by changing Belly's principles. In the books, Belly waits until marriage to have sex and doesn't have a sexual connection with Jeremiah during their two-year relationship.

But in the TV show, she has already lost her virginity to Conrad in Season 2, which might lead to a different portrayal of her relationship with Jeremiah since she doesn't wait until marriage anymore.

Just tell us what team are you?

2. Belly’s Hobby

In the show, Belly's life is closely tied to volleyball, and in Season 2 she struggles with letting her team down and looks for ways to get back in the saddle. However, this major storyline is completely absent from the book series, as the books don't explore Belly's school life and hobbies beyond Cousins Beach.

1. Steven And Taylor's Relationship

One of the central storylines that captivated viewers of the show during the second season was the unfolding romance between Steven and Taylor. As they navigated the ups and downs of their budding relationship, fans eagerly speculated whether they would eventually end up together.

While Season 2 left us with a heartwarming confirmation of Staylor's love, this storyline deviated significantly from the book series, leaving viewers without the safety net of the source material to predict their future.
