Stan Lee’s Final Cameo Was Surprisingly Not in a Marvel Movie
You think Avengers: Endgame is Stan Lee’s last cameo? Well, that’s not true.
We all know and love Stan Lee, the man who gave us Spider-Man, Iron Man, and a whole universe of superheroes.
He was basically the grandpa of the Marvel Universe, popping up in little scenes here and there. But did you know his last cameo wasn't even in a Marvel movie?
Stan Lee's last time on screen was in a movie called Madness in the Method, directed by Jason Mewes. If that name sounds familiar, it's because Mewes is one-half of the iconic duo Jay and Silent Bob.
The movie was released in 2019 and is a Hollywood satire that also serves as a meta-commentary on Mewes' own career. Stan Lee plays himself in the movie, and his cameo was first spotted in the trailer.
What makes this cameo even more special is the story behind it. Stan Lee said yes to doing the scene as a favor to Mewes. Mewes told Looper that the team had to hustle to get everything ready for the shots because Stan had a dinner with his wife at 6:00 PM, a ritual he never skipped.
While most of us associate Stan Lee with Marvel, he wasn't confined to just that universe. He's made appearances in other films like Kick-Ass, The Princess Diaries 2, and even in a DC's animated movie, Teen Titans GO! To the Movies. His final cameo in Madness in the Method is still one of the most interesting projects in his diverse portfolio.
Although directors Anthony and Joe Russo initially claimed that Stan Lee's last cameo was in Avengers: Endgame, it turns out that Mewes' satire holds that honor. But who knows? There might be some unreleased footage out there waiting to surprise us.
Stan Lee's appearances in movies, especially now that he's no longer with us, are really enjoyable and heartwarming to see. Each of his cameos is now a touching tribute to a man who was larger than life but still grounded in what mattered most — love, friendship, and of course, a good sense of humor.
