It manages to mock only its own self, not the whole genre.

Back in 1988, the world saw the success of an action flick following a one-man war against a gang of ruthless thieves. The first Die Hard movie made Bruce Willis one of the most demanded genre’s actors and started the successful movie franchise.

Die Hard’s legacy lives on to this day too, as there are many attempts to ride the same hype train or to mock the genre’s classic tropes. These include quite a controversial action flick that is now reigning supreme in Prime Video ’s global top.

Its plot revolves around an actor who faces a career crisis and sees a way out in his idea to make a brand new action movie that can rekindle people’s interest in him. However, you can already guess that everything doesn’t go according to his plans.

The film blends action and comedy elements and is intended to be a parody not only of Die Hard, but rather of all the genre’s staples. However, it’s obviously not the first movie of such a kind, and its plot is in fact really reminiscent of another action comedy.

Cinema lovers can recall the best action satire ever made, Ben Stiller’s star-studded Tropic Thunder (2008), that also centered on a group of actors during their awkward attempt to make a Vietnam War film that turned into a hilarious failure.

Besides, there are such successful action comedies, as Adam Sandler ’s You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008) and Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper ’s The A-Team (2010).

The movie we’re talking about appears to be not even a movie, but a series’ season that was edited into a full-length film to attract more viewers. Titled Die Hart 2: Die Harter, it’s a follow-up of Kevin Hart’s 2023 action comedy, also edited from the Die Hart series.

Hart here plays a fictionalized version of himself and is supported by Nathalie Emmanuel (Megapolis), Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation ) and John Cena (Barbie ).

The film’s origin, the show’s second season, has already gained a shameful score of 33% from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes, and the movie edition is now panned for being generic, plain and even a pale copy of Tropic Thunder and other similar flicks.

However, if you’re a fan of Kevin Hart or simply want to have a good rest with a movie, check out Die Hart 2: Die Harter, as it’s already available for watching on Prime.
