Snow White Remake Star Outrages Fans: ‘Did She Even Read The Original Story?’
Rachel Zegler isn't particularly fond of the 1937 original, finding its central love story "weird."
The upcoming Snow White movie will be the latest in a long line of live-action remakes of Disney 's animated classics, and it is fast approaching its release date.
Considering how notorious such remakes have become in recent years, with the overwhelming majority of them paling in comparison to the originals, it's not surprising that Snow White hasn't been without its share of controversy.
However, the accusations of being a "soulless commercial product" with nothing new to offer the viewer, which have followed all previous Disney remakes, are not the only thing that has caused a stir among the fanbase.
Recently, a rather questionable take on the original 1937 animated film by the remake's star, Rachel Zegler, resurfaced on the Internet, further enraging fans.
In an interview with extratv, Zegler discussed the differences between the original and the remake, calling the former "weird" for having Snow White fall in love with a man "who literally stalks her."
She promised a different approach in the upcoming movie, stating that it will not be about love, but rather about the character's inner journey.
Fans believe that the actress is not doing the upcoming project any favors, and that the movie is already generating controversy before any posters or trailers have been released.
They wonder if Zegler is even familiar with the original story by the Brothers Grimm, as compared to it, 1937's Snow White is incredibly tame and almost completely devoid of scary, dark or shocking moments.
Moreover, most of the Grimms' tales were quite disturbing at times, while Disney's animated adaptations of them got rid of such scenes, making them much more child-friendly and appropriate for modern times.
Fans feel that if the creators hate the source material so much, perhaps Disney should create something original and more in line with their current beliefs, since almost all of their old animated classics can be considered inappropriate these days.
However, it will be a while before it becomes clear if their concerns are valid, as Snow White is scheduled to be released on March 22, 2024.
