One of TV's most beloved serial killers returns.

At some point, the management of the channel and the creators of popular series are faced with a difficult choice: end their creation on a high note, or continue to make money from it, destroying what they have carefully built. Unfortunately, not everyone is ready to let go of their brainchild, so they continue to exploit it.

One of the consequences of this attitude is the emergence of the term hate-watching – when one continues to watch a show that no longer produces positive emotions. And Dexter fans know exactly what hate-watching means.

Dexter had a Difficult Fate During Its Original Run

By the eighth season, fans had completely forgotten why they started watching the show about the serial killer Dexter. The show, which was the best crime project on television for its first four seasons, lost its gritty realism, twisting plot and interesting characters, leaving us with only the brilliant acting of Michael C. Hall.

The final episodes of the eighth season seemed to infuriate all viewers. The creators avoided the difficult choice of the fate of their main character, and then gave us Dexter living out his days in the form of a sad lumberjack.

Dexter's Story Was Continued in a Miniseries

But this was not the end of Dexter's story. In 2021, the miniseries Dexter: New Blood was released. And this project turned out to be controversial: as a separate series, it is one of many reverse detective stories that intrigue you not by the search for the killer, but by the anticipation of his capture.

And at the same time, it's hard to be a fan of Dexter and not admit that at least the first four episodes were touching.

But this was not the end of Dexter's story, either. Showtime announced plans to film a series about Dexter's youth in 2023. Now that project has been confirmed, and while it doesn't have a release date, it does have a name – Dexter: Original Sin.

What Will Dexter: Original Sin Be About?

The action will take place 15 years before the events of the original series. The main character will appear as a student who is just beginning his journey as a serial killer/avenger.

In the story, Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson) will no longer be able to ignore his desire to kill. Therefore, the boy's adoptive father, Harry (Christian Slater), will begin to teach his son to channel his inner darkness in the right direction.

Harry will devise a special code for Dexter to use in seeking out and killing people he believes should disappear. Only those who commit crimes and harm society will become victims. Dexter will also do an internship in the forensics department of the Miami Police Department.
