There are many things that could be said about Ted Mosby at various stages of his life, both good and bad. But no one who cared enough to not get beaten to death by his kids would've ever called Ted a good to-the-point storyteller.
Ted's poor kids had been sitting on the couch in his study for many years by the time he finally finished telling them his story.
They grew up in that study, on that couch, right before the viewers' eyes, and as time passed, they looked more and more exhausted and even irritated by their father's never-ending tale.
If you look at their appearances at the start and at the end of the show, it's almost like the kids never even got the chance to change their clothes.
This led to many jokes about how in reality Ted just locked the kids in the study and decided to never let them out until the story would be finished.
Based on this assumption (and even without it, to be perfectly honest!), it's only fair if at some point the kids would've just absolutely lost it after another round of Ted's confessions about all the other girls he'd been with before he met their Mom.

Apart from just being a hilarious promo, this video also makes justice for Ted's kids — especially if the HIMYM fan community 's Sherlocks deduced correctly by the clothes that the poor children were locked in the study for over eight years.
We can only admire the kids' patience: it must have taken every last bit of nerves in them to remain calm for years prior to this explosion.
