Scar Did Nothing Wrong: This Lion King Fan Theory Makes You Question Everything You Knew
If you think that Lion King is a story of betrayal and loyalty that teaches kids to always defend what's right and remain true… Think again.
The truth hidden behind layers upon layers of Mufasa's regime propaganda was recently uncovered by kaiiito11, Scar's loyal and fierce Reddit warrior. They claim that Mufasa was a dictator, and Scar only wanted to improve things.
Let's see if they have enough evidence to ultimately expose Mufasa's lies.
The crooked regime
According to the theory, Mufasa built a dystopian society and used oppressive methods for segregation. While his pride was living in a lush green oasis, everyone else was deemed "lesser beings" and struggled elsewhere.
Hyenas had it the worst, having to live in the elephant graveyard slums. Mufasa's propaganda claimed that lions were at the top of the food chain, so everything was theirs. Other animals were second-class.
To maintain this apartheid, Mufasa was indoctrinating his son and heir with his lies.
All these talks about "separate but equal" and "the circle of life" were justifying the lions' superiority and ultimate rights in Simba's eyes as well as the eyes of other Mufasa's citizens.
The just revolutionary
Scar always saw how unfair and terrible Mufasa's reign was for everyone other than lions. He initially thought he would become his brother's heir one day and would be able to fix it. However, Simba's birth turned the tables.
Scar didn't make a move immediately. But after watching Mufasa brainwash his cub to believe segregation was just, he realized he had to act.
Though by unethical methods, his coup had a noble goal: to establish a society where "lions and hyenas come together for a great and glorious future."
Scar wanted to end years of apartheid and have hyenas and other animals recognized as equal members of society.
The elites' sabotage
The elites of this society — the lions — didn't take well to Scar's ideas of equality. If anything, they decided to sabotage his rule.
By withholding their roars that could call the herds of animals back to Pride Rock, they inflicted famine on their own citizens… All that to make Scar look bad, pin the blame on him, and raise discontent in society.
Their initial plan of turning everyone against Scar with famine wasn't even put into motion as Nala found Simba. Since Mufasa's heir was alive, all the lionesses united to overthrow Scar's government.
He was basically defenseless against such a force since the famine caused by the elites made many of his hyena associates abandon him.
While Scar's methods were cruel and unethical at times, he tried to fix the broken society he lived in. Ending segregation and the lion supremacy regime was a noble and progressive cause.
Unfortunately, he underestimated the elites and their desire to maintain their absolute power and was doomed just like his reforms.
