The real-life sports drama is getting a second life 15 years after its initial release.

New unexpected arrivals keep hitting Netflix ’s top 10 charts, and this week marks yet another old flick’s triumph among the streaming giant’s most-watched movies.

Added to Netflix’s immense collection of films and shows several days ago, the Sandra Bullock-led sports drama The Blind Side is currently getting a lot of attention from the audience and, according to the most recent data from FlixPatrol, is holding the 5th place in Netflix’s US top 10.

Initially released back in 2009, The Blind Side is based on Michael Lewis’s 2006 book of the same name and follows an incredible real life story of American football offensive lineman Michael Oher.

Having been homeless for years since he was abandoned by his biological parents, he gets a golden ticket to a better life when Leigh Anne Tuohy, portrayed by Sandra Bullock, and her husband Sean, played by Tom McGraw, take him in hoping to make all of his dreams come true.

When Michael starts succeeding in school studies and expresses his interest in playing football professionally, Leigh is the one to embark on a mission to lead her son towards the success, navigating him and his coach with a clear vision of the best use of Michael’s extraordinary skills.

Dedicated to a real-life football player, The Blind Side brought numerous moviegoers to theaters across the globe and eventually became commercial and critical success.

The film grossed $309 million against the initial budget of only $29 million and landed impressive scores of 66% and 85% from professionals and the audience respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Blind Side also turned out to be one of the highlights of Sandra Bullock’s career since it got her a whole set of prestigious awards, including the Academy award, the Golden Globe Award and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress.

The Blind Side Controversy, Explained

The movie was feeling just fine with all the accolades that it got, until years later Oher dropped a major bombshell back in 2023.

The football player claimed that the Tuohys had never adopted him legally and, on top of that, had actually tricked him into signing a conservatorship agreement which would later on bring the couple millions of income from their son’s job.

Following his official statement, Oher promised to do everything possible to deprive his adoptive parents of any share of profits from his wins, adding that he was ready to make this in a legal way. Leigh Anne and Sean, in their turn, denied all the allegations regarding their attempts to make money off their son.

The Blind Side can be streamed on Netflix worldwide.
