Though Ryan Gosling’s latest hit Barbie may be the one with a lot of ways to go for sequels, Ken’s role is definitely not the one that most of the fans wanted the actor to reprise.

Before all the fuss with dolls, Gosling starred in a buddy action movie that eventually turned out to be quite a big hit with a plot flexible enough for expansion — but the actor’s recent update about the film’s future isn’t that promising.

Gosling is currently keeping busy with promoting his brand new movie The Fall Guy where he stars alongside Emily Blunt — and while the actor is pretty much open to talking about his role, journalists don’t skip an opportunity to get some more details about his previous works.

During an interview with ComicBook, Gosling was asked whether we were likely to get a sequel for The Nice Guys, a 2016 comedy with Gosling and Russell Crowe in the leading roles, and his answer has seemingly confirmed the main reason for doubts.

Talking about a potential sequel, Gosling admitted that something like this was very unlikely to happen given The Nice Guys’ poor performance in the box office, despite mainly good reviews from critics and viewers.

According to the actor, a sequel perspective is pretty clear right after the first week in the cinemas, but the movie was unfortunate to be released simultaneously with Angry Birds — and the latter obviously took all the money.

As Gosling later put it, The Angry Birds Movie eventually “just destroyed” The Nice Guys which indeed could’ve had a very successful run of several movies if the tables were turned.

Following two private detectives who have seemingly come from different planets to carry out a common investigation of a teenage girl’s disappearance, the movie got a critical acclaim with 91% from professionals and 79% from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes, but never made it to a fortune in the box office, garnering only $62 million against the budget of $50 million.
