Relatable Reason Nicolas Cage Had to Settle For 'Crummy' Roles

Nicolas Cage has an impressive list of projects he has participated in during his many years of acting.

However, many of them are far from masterpieces, as during his career decline in the 2010s, Cage had to take whatever roles he was offered in order to stay afloat.

In a recent interview with 60 Minutes, the actor, whose career seems to have finally turned around in recent years, reflected on the matter.

According to Cage, he was over-invested in real estate at the time, so when the market crashed, it did significant damage to his financial situation.

To the actor's credit, Nic didn't file for bankruptcy and paid off his debts all by himself. To do so, Cage had to star in all kinds of movies, including direct-to-video releases.

But he never skipped a beat, because work is work, and "even if the movie ultimately is crummy, they know I'm not phoning it in, that I care every time."

This attitude has earned him the undying love of his fans, who express their respect for the actor. They say that this is the attitude of a true professional, because even if the movies he starred in were not Oscar-worthy, he did what he had to do.

Besides, Cage made even the worst of his movies entertaining just by virtue of his signature acting, so you can't say the man didn't at least try to make them better.

There were also some hidden gems, such as Willy's Wonderland, where Cage managed to make the main character, simply called the Janitor, fantastic without a single line of dialogue.

So fans are grateful that he has the courage to admit his hits and misses, and wish he would keep "playing the game."

And he certainly does, as several of his recent films have been warmly received by critics and audiences alike, including Pig (2021), The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022), and most recently Renfield (2023), in which he portrayed the iconic Count Dracula.

So perhaps Nic will finally be able to take his career to new heights.
