Prime Officially Has a New Best Series Ever as Reacher Is Dethroned
No one does it like Cooper Howard, according to Nielsen’s latest top list update.
Summary:
- Nielsen’s latest report reveals the viewership numbers for Fallout ’s debut week, and they are overwhelming.
- With over 2.9B views in its first five days since release, Fallout became Prime Video ’s most successful TV show ever.
- The previous record-holder for Prime Video, Reacher, had about 1B fewer views in its best week on streaming.
Prime Video’s Fallout TV show was extremely divisive up until the day it premiered — because since then, everyone has been absolutely in love with it, including the most staunch critics. Jonathan Nolan and his team did the near-impossible, adapting a video game in a way that left both new fans and OG gamers extremely happy with the end result and instantly craving for more, The Last of Us- style.
But Fallout went further — and started smashing records, too.
Fallout Became Prime Video’s Biggest TV Show
Nielsen recently revealed the report for the second week of April aka the week where Fallout premiered. According to the company, Prime Video’s Fallout absolutely dominated the watch time then, raking up an incredible 2.9 BILLION views in the first five days after its release and leaving its closest competitor Bluey in the dust with under 1.4B views.
This also automatically makes Fallout Prime Video’s most successful TV show ever, seeing how it surpasses its closest predecessor Reacher’s best week by 1B views. Nielsen’s report also revealed the demographic of Fallout fans, with its most interesting points being that a quarter of the show’s viewers were over 50 years old.
Fallout Positively Makes History with Season 1
Video game adaptations have always been one of the most difficult things to pull off and used to consistently fail in the past. But just like HBO’s The Last of Us, Prime Video’s Fallout showed just how far the industry has come: now, it’s obvious that with a great and dedicated team, video game adaptations can even leave classic TV shows in the dust by a large margin.
It doesn’t come as a surprise that Fallout was renewed for Season 2 in a matter of days after S1’s premiere, seeing that Amazon had the viewership data from the get-go. Now, Jonathan Nolan and his team have a new challenge ahead of them: no one expected much from them before, but with Fallout Season 1 raising the plank so high, they have some gigantic boots to fill with Season 2.
Luckily, those boots are their own, so they might just be the perfect fit.
