Out of the Blue, Ms. Marvel Surprisingly Scores 3 Emmy Nominations

Ms. Marvel, telling the story of Kamala Khan, portrayed by Iman Vellani, a Pakistani-American 16-year-old who discovers her superpowers and learns to balance her life as a teenager, was the fifth live-action Marvel series on Disney Plus, released last summer.

While not absolutely flawless, the series had its fair share of memorable moments, and unlike some other Disney Plus’ Marvel shows, Ms. Marvel is connected to the events of the MCU, and Kamala Khan is returning soon in the upcoming MCU movie, The Marvels, set to release on November 10, 2023.

The recent Emmy nomination announcement is filled with unexpected nominees, and Ms. Marvel is no exception. Unlike She-Hulk, which was submitted for 19 categories and scored none of the nominations, Ms. Marvel received not one but three nominations, despite facing fierce competition.

It's a fierce category with some serious contenders — including the raw and intense BEEF, the chilling Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the much-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi, the thrilling Prey, and the hilarious biographical comedy Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

Each show in this category is unique, and yet our favorite teenage superhero has managed to punch its way into the nominations with its spot-on editing.

Outstanding Music Composition For A Limited Or Anthology Series, Movie Or Special (Original Dramatic Score)

This is no small feat considering the competition includes magic-filled Hocus Pocus 2, another nomination for Prey, the thought-provoking A Small Light, and again, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

Ms. Marvel's score isn't just background noise; it's a key component of the series that amplifies the drama, the action, and the emotion. It's no surprise that the Emmy panel recognized its brilliance.

Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music

In this category, Ms. Marvel is up against some heavy hitters including Andor, Guillermo Del Toro ’s Cabinet Of Curiosities, The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power, and Wednesday.

Even among these sound giants, Ms. Marvel's theme music, composed by Laura Karpman, manages to stand out with its memorable tune and pulsating rhythm.
