One HoTD S2 Scene That Can Ruin The Show If Done Wrong (HBO, Take Notes)
It will set the tone for the whole season, so it better not be a disappointment.
While those fans who just learned about the Targaryen story through the first season of House of the Dragon are most excited to see the series continue, others who have read the books and know what to expect are more cautious.
Though they will be just as excited to see their favorites back on screen, there are a few moments that could make or break season 2 for them right from the start. Team Black's revenge on Lucerys is one of them.
Warning: the following article contains potential spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2.
In the book, both Daemon and Rhaenyra are determined to avenge Team Green for the death of Lucerys, one of Rhaenyra's bastard sons fathered by Harwin Strong.
Though his death was made into an accident in the adaptation, revenge is still imminent, as confirmed by casting news and leaked photos from the set.
To avenge Luce, Daemon contacts his people in King's Landing and orders them to assassinate one of Helena and Aegon's children. Two assassins named Blood and Cheese complete the mission, beheading the young Jahaerys, which only drives the teams further apart and calls for more war.
With the show's tendency to humanize every character more than the original source intended, fans are slightly concerned that the scene will be made less gruesome.
If House of The Dragon decides to go the same route and make Rhaenyra less involved or disapprove of such methods, her character would lack the necessary cruelty and power to continue the war.
While the writers' desire to make the main characters more likable and relatable to the audience is understandable, there is a limit when it comes to the events described in George R.R. Martin's books.
If anything, fans are ready to see Rhaenyra more unhinged and powerful than ever, avenging her ruined family and reclaiming the usurped throne.
Whether House of The Dragon season 2 will handle Blood & Cheese properly or downplay it to the point where it makes no sense, we'll have to wait and see. Until then, keep an eye out for more behind-the-scenes updates and news from the set.
