Spoiler alert! Rhaenyra and Alicent's relationship is about to get explored even more.

House of The Dragon began on HBO with immediate success, earning a second season renewal the very next day after its premiere.

Although many Game of Thrones fans were wary of the series, burned too badly by the disappointment of its ending, they were still willing to give the prequel a chance.

Unlike Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon has the undoubted advantage of being based on a completed story by George R. R. Martin.

Learning from past mistakes, the production team is working closely with the author to create the best possible adaptation for the small screen.

Although there are still some major changes, House of the Dragon follows the story relatively close to the original source.

However, it's very difficult to say which events will take place in which season. With HBO publicly stating earlier this year that the show will have 3 or 4 seasons at most, fans are afraid that things will be rushed.

But there's one positive thing the show has already added: a meaningful relationship between two main female rivals in the plot, Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Throughout season 1, we've seen their friendship blossom, only to be ruined by the patriarchal rules of Westeros.

In the season finale, we saw Rhaenyra still fighting the urge to give in to the memories when Otto brings her the page from the book she gave Alicent when they were teenagers.

It is safe to assume that the same feeling of nostalgia would drive her to make the decision to save Alicent's life when Team Black takes over King's Landing.

While the books outlined the events, the show takes the opportunity to explore the feelings and motivations behind the characters' actions.

Written from the perspective of several different people, all biased towards the crown in one way or another, the book was never a reliable source for this, so the show takes it upon itself to cover the bases.

Whether that happens in season 2 or later in the series, we'll have to wait and see. Keep an eye out for news and updates from the set so you don't miss the season 2 release date announcement!
