One Comic Book Role Robert Pattinson Could've Stolen From Chris Evans
What DCEU and MCU stars could possibly fight over?
Back in the day, it was hard to imagine both Robert Pattinson and Chris Evans entering the same room to audition for the same part. Although both actors were always undoubtedly good, they always seemed to represent completely different types of characters.
You wouldn’t imagine former Captain America appearing in Twilight as Edward Cullen, right? Just like you wouldn’t expect Robert Pattinson to cover his nipples and crotch in whipped cream for a shot in a comedic Not Another Teen Movie. No matter how amusing that sounds, that’s just not something that would happen in real life.
However, now that Robert Pattinson has quite successfully established himself as the new Batman, and become one of the faces for DCEU, it’s much easier to imagine him having to fight one of MCU ’s most prominent former actors for a role in another action masterpiece based on a comic book.
As it turns out, both actors have tried out for Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
“I remember it vividly. He [Robert] did a much more intense read of it as well. Obviously, Robert is an incredible actor and someone who I’d love to work with now. But it was a very different take from what Chris did,” Edgar Wright recalled in an interview with Variety.
Chris Evans ended up getting the role of Lucas Lee and appearing in the 2010 film, only for it to completely flop with only $48M at the box office, while it took a $60M budget to make.
However, that was a great lesson to learn, as the movie is as popular as ever now, in 2023, and the Scott Pilgrim franchise is ready to re-emerge in the form of Netflix ’s animated series with the whole original cast returning for voiceover. The cast along with the director had to wait on the project’s success, but never doubted it would reach its audience.
If you want to hear Chris Evans’ Lucas Lee growl his lines again, you can go ahead and rewatch Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on Peacock, or wait for Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim animated series to premiere on November 17.
