Nicole Kidman’s 32%-Rated Romcom Conquered Netflix Global Top in 3 Days
The streaming’s highly anticipated, yet controversial arrival has viewers glued to their screens.
Netflix ’s audience is pretty much used to discovering more and more of new flicks and shows in Netflix’s infinite collection, yet last week marked a long-awaited romcom movie’s drop on the platform, and it seems like fans just can’t get enough of it.
Despite very ambiguous reviews, A Family Affair starring Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Joey King in the leading roles has been quick to climb to the number one position in Netflix’s global top 10.
Officially released on June 28, A Family Affair follows Joey King’s young woman Zara who just had too much as an assistant of arrogant Hollywood star Chris Cole, portrayed by Zac Efron, and quits her job.
She doesn’t spend enough time in peace though – soon Chris appears on her doorstep to offer a promotion and make her his assistant producer, but Zara is nowhere to be found and only her mother Brooke, played by Nicole Kidman, is at home at the moment.
Sparks fly instantly for Chris and Brooke, which is bad news for Zara who comes back home to see her mother having an affair with her former boss. Having promised her daughter to never see Chris again, Brooke still isn’t able to stay away from him and thus starts a secret romantic relationship with a Hollywood star.
Though the brand new movie needed only two days to become Netflix’s biggest hit at the moment, it didn’t become that much of a hit for critics and even for the audience itself.
To date, A Family Affair holds average scores of 43% and 33% from critics and viewers respectively, with many slamming the brand new romcom for its lack of authenticity and even lack of convincing chemistry between Kidman and Efron.
Others also pointed out the film’s poor writing and directing which even the star-studded cast couldn’t save.
A Family Affair is now available for streaming on Netflix worldwide.
