Dead City looks surprisingly promising and feels like the first two seasons of the original series.

The Walking Dead TV series is notorious for how spectacularly it fell from grace over time. A show that had an exceptionally strong start slowly became a total mess that dragged on for 11 seasons.

By the time it finally ended, it resembled its own titular zombies, still on the air when no one wanted it anymore. It has also spawned several spin-offs that have been rather hit and miss.

But perhaps that is about to change, as the first trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City has finally arrived, and it has surprisingly rekindled fans' hopes for the series.

The plot will follow Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), two of the characters from the main series, as they travel to undead infested Manhattan in search of Maggie's kidnapped son.

And what was shown in the trailer has fans excited, as it seems that this spin-off will be quite different from the others.

First of all, they admit that it feels like the first two seasons of the original show, when zombies were a massive threat instead of human survivors.

Many fans were turned off by this change in tone in the later seasons, so seeing the show return to its roots is quite pleasing.

Many fans say that the Atlanta parts of Season 1 were their favorite, and seeing the characters encounter zombies in an urban setting is what they have been looking forward to.

There will also be more variations of the walkers, such as fast zombies and the one that appears to be several corpses molded together.

There have been hints that there are different types of infected in the other spin-offs, but they never grew into anything significant for the franchise, and maybe that will change.

The skyscrapers of Manhattan also make for some potentially interesting setups, as there are both plenty of infected to create danger and who knows what decayed horrors lie inside those buildings, as they have most likely remained untouched since the start of the pandemic.

And finally, a lot of fans love Negan, and seeing more of him is enough to at least give the new show a chance.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere on June 18, 2023.
