New Stephen King Adaptation May Disappoint Hardcore Fans, the Star Reveals
But it’s still great in its own right.
One of the most exciting things any book reader can experience is the news that their favorite story is being adapted for the screen. However, it is not easy to ensure that the beauty of the original story is translated to the screen, and thus many adaptations end up being completely butchered by the movie or TV series production teams.
Stephen King 's horror has been adapted or referenced on screen more times than we can count. Since some adaptations are better than others, audiences are skeptical of each new one, and as it turns out, rightfully so.
The Life of Chuck Mike Flanagan Movie
While discussing her latest project, Karen Gillan took a moment to talk about another upcoming movie she's been working on for quite some time now. Adapted from Stephen King's novella, the 2020 collection If It Bleeds also reunites the actress with director Mike Flanagan, known for his successful King adaptations.
Here's what Gillan had to say about the movie to MovieWeb:
“What's interesting is that it's not really horror. If you know the short story, you'll know that. But it's beautiful. I feel like he's created a masterpiece. I've just never seen anything like it before. It's sort of experimental and just gives you an existential crisis,” the actress said.
While the approach Flanagan took to adapting the novella may disappoint some hardcore Stephen King fans and fans of the horror genre in general, the film still seems to be one of the most interesting upcoming premieres. If not for the beloved original source, then for the brilliant casting.
Karen Gillan is joined by Tom Hiddleston, who will play the lead role of Chuck Krantz, Mark Hamill and Jacob Tremblay. Filming, which was disrupted by the WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes in 2023, has already been completed and the movie is currently in post-production. Although there is no confirmed release date, fans expect the movie to premiere in 2025.
If you're interested in giving The Life of Chuck a chance, even if it doesn't give you the horror creeps, keep an eye out for news of its premiere date to be the first to get your tickets.
