NCIS Mark Harmon Finally Gets Candid About His Potential Return to the Franchise
Leroy Jethro Gibbs might be back one day, but the character’s actor doesn’t have much to know about it.
Ahead of the NCIS franchise’s major comeback to television this fall with season 22 of the original show and two more spinoffs, fans still have only one question they’re desperate to know the answer to.
Though the NCISverse is about to reintroduce Leroy Jethro Gibbs in his younger years covered by NCIS: Origins, many might be glad to exchange the upcoming spinoff for original Gibbs’ return, yet this time he may be pretty adamant about his retirement plans.
With all the stunning success it still has with viewers after more than 2 decades since its launch, NCIS surely still has a long way to go, but its inevitable finale has some specific suggestions from fans even now, and one of them has a lot to do with a long-awaited return.
Talking about a brand new take on Gibbs in NCIS: Origins, Mark Harmon reflected on his potential comeback to the original show should its finale indeed require it.
After years spent portraying Gibbs on the screens, the actor would probably be glad to reunite with his former co-stars for a while, yet so far he doesn’t seem to have any clue about the creators’ plans for the series’ future.
According to Harmon, he hasn't received any specific offers yet, but hinted that he would love to consider those since “I’ve always let the writers do what they want to do. Directly, like a phone call…? Not that I’m aware of.”
Considering that Mark Harmon isn’t out of business anytime soon, as he’s also one of the executive producers of NCIS: Origins, the chances that his Gibbs will get bored during his retirement and thus will decide to lend a helping hand to the MCRT at some point are pretty high right now.
NCIS had a truly unprecedented success when the team had Gibbs as its leader, and then didn’t even lose its ground when the character was replaced by Alden Parker, though Gibbs’ return would signal the return of better times for the MCRT and the show as a whole.
Considering how much of an impact Harmon’s Gibbs had back in the day, the showrunners could even come up with a proper storyline for the character instead of just giving him a brief cameo.
