Yet the thriving series never stopped getting all the backlash.

NCIS ’ universe is just several months away from coming back to the screens with a few of its installments at once, including two brand new spinoffs, though the upcoming TV season still doesn’t look that promising after NCIS: Hawai’i’s cancellation back in April.

The show became one of the most-watched series in CBS’ current schedule, yet the network had several attempts to justify such an unfair decision by providing numerous reasons for why NCIS: Hawai’i eventually didn’t work out.

Ironically, the successful show seems to have been kicked out from the network’s schedule by another, less fascinating (according to many fans) spinoff, though there’s still a major reason for that.

Coming as NCIS’ first ever spinoff set outside the US, NCIS: Sydney indeed deserves some credit as the show was made in the most authentic way possible since its team features only Australian actors and crew members, apart from taking a closer look at NCIS’ department in Australia.

As it eventually turned out, NCIS: Sydney got the franchise’s fans divided, with most of the US viewers saying that it wasn’t worth the shot and canceling NCIS; Hawai’i for it was the most insane idea that CBS execs have ever come up with, while those who actually live in Australia claimed that they’d never expected NCIS: Sydney to be that good.

Australians’ love for the show quickly got noted by the network’s producers who now seemingly cling onto the controversial spinoff since it’s the one to attract more of foreign audience to the whole franchise. Despite being fans’ favorite, NCIS: Hawai’i was probably not doing so well with viewers outside the US.

However heartbroken NCIS: Hawai’i’s fans may be right now still trying to bring their beloved show back, it seems like the canceled spinoff indeed passed on the torch to its Australian fellow series as the latter is officially getting a second season set to arrive sometime later this year or in 2025.

However, things still might not be that bad for some of the ditched show’s characters. Before NCIS drops its new season and more spinoffs, NCIS: Hawai’i’s Special Agents can have some chances to get transferred to the franchise’s other series thus getting a proper continuous storyline or a closure that they always deserved.
