Thrilling mysterious drama shows are back, and we’re here for it.

There’s a bunch of new exciting arrivals landing on the Apple TV+ platform this month, and Natalie Portman ’s brand new miniseries is one of them.

The show based on real-life eerie events that took place back in the 1960s marks the actress’ major comeback to television after her being at helm of some series from previous years, mostly featuring Portman as a narrator or an executive producer.

Now that the actress got herself a leading role in the upcoming series, Black Swan fans might finally get some nostalgia feeling seeing Portman try to deal with all the horrors that surround her.

Based on Laura Lippman’s 2019 novel of the same name, Lady in the Lake will take its viewers to the 1960s’ Baltimore where an unsolved murder of an 11-year-old gives housewife and mother Maddie Schwartz an incentive to boost her career as an investigative journalist, eventually forcing her to leave all her domestic problems behind.

Diving deeper into her own investigation, Maddie suddenly gets involved in another compelling case, this time concerning Cleo Sherwood, a citizen who was doing her best to bring a local Black community to a wider recognition before being killed.

Driven by her craving for unveiling long-forgotten mysteries, Maddie becomes obsessed with both crime cases.

Lady in the Lake comes as a worthy replacement for the Amy Adams-led miniseries Sharp Objects that also put its focus on a troubled investigative journalist who embarks on a mission to find out what happened to two young girls years ago in her hometown.

Released back in 2018, Sharp Objects was a critically acclaimed hit praised for the cast ensemble’s performances and masterful writing.

Since Lady in the Lake follows a pretty much similar road of eerie investigations in mysterious small towns, it better also follow the same path of success among critics as its predecessor did years ago.

Lady in the Lake is set to arrive on Apple TV+ on July 19.
