Michelle Rodriguez Almost Quit Fast and Furious In Tears, Here’s Why

Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely that actors in movies or TV shows will have much influence on their character's storyline. Although the actors are usually the ones to get the deepest understanding of their own characters, spend more time with them, and feel the most special bond, their own thoughts should end where the directions begin.

Though some actors may find a way to voice their opinions and try to negotiate with the writers or director, there's not much they can do when everyone's mind is already made up and set on something.

This stubbornness coming from the producers was the reason Michelle Rodriguez almost quit the Fast and the Furious franchise.

In fact, the actress was so disturbed by one of the decisions made by the team behind the production that she was left reeling and contemplating her future in the movies.

The actress recalled the emotional moment in an interview with The Daily Beast:

“Is it realistic for a Latin girl who’s with the alpha-est of the alpha males to cheat on him with the cute boy? I had to put my foot down. I basically cried and said, I’m going to quit and, ‘Don’t sue me, please—I’m sorry, but I can’t do this in front of millions of people’”.

However, there was one co-star who understood the problem she had with such a script better than anyone else on set and promised to take care of it. Vin Diesel took it upon himself to change the part of the story that was equally humiliating to both characters and make it into something much greater.

Luckily for all of us, the viewers who got quality movies and the actors who didn't have to endure the script filled with baseless clichés, he succeeded. And Michelle Rodriguez repaid him with unquestionable loyalty. When her co-star decided to drop out of the next two movies, she made the same decision.

No wonder their friendship lasted for so many years, even after the two co-stars were in a relationship and eventually broke up! It was set up to succeed from the beginning, as the two actors were quick to have each other's back in any circumstance. That is the kind of support system that any other Hollywood actor, from beginners to A-list celebrities would want to have on any set.
