MCU Fans Are Still Not Over About This Questionable Ant-Man Recast
Was it really a good idea to recast Ant-Man’s daughter?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen its fair share of changes over the years, including recasts due to different reasons. If you've been following the MCU, you will definitely remember Bruce Banner and Rhodey, who were eventually recast.
One most recent recast in particular has left fans with mixed feelings: the role of Cassie Lang, Scott Lang's (Ant-Man) daughter.
Back in 2015, when we first met Cassie in Ant-Man, she was an adorable little girl played by Abby Ryder Fortson. In Avengers: Endgame we saw a grown Cassie played by Emma Fuhrmann.
However, the surprises didn't stop there. In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, released this year, Cassie was reintroduced, this time portrayed by Kathryn Newton.
The first recast from Fortson to Fuhrmann was understandable. The five-year time jump in Endgame implied that Cassie had to age, and Fuhrmann fit the bill for a teenage Cassie.
Her heartfelt reunion with her father after his return from the Quantum Realm was a standout moment in the film, suggesting a promising future for the heroine in the franchise.
But the choice to swap out Fuhrmann and bring in Newton for the third Ant-Man movie got a lot of people talking. Some speculate it might be because of Newton's rising fame, especially after her roles in hits like Detective Pikachu. Given that the stakes were high on this movie, the decision to sign up a rising star really seems like a move Marvel could make.
Others believe it could be due to scheduling conflicts, although Fuhrmann's schedule didn't indicate any major commitments.
Fans shared their opinions on Reddit with many fans feeling that the new Cassie didn't resemble the younger version, making the transition jarring. Some even shared side-by-side comparisons, emphasizing the stark differences in appearance.
Fuhrmann's portrayal was brief but it was impactful. The decision to recast her role came as a surprise, especially when she seemed perfectly set up for future MCU projects, potentially as a superhero in the Young Avengers.
Fans are praising Fuhrmann's performance in Endgame over Newton's portrayal. But whether fans agree with the decision or not, it's clear that Cassie's character has a bright future in the MCU, and Kathryn Newton still can prove she is worthy of this role.
