Woody Allen seems to have some influence on Mrs. Maisel, and fans loved it.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5, episode 6, The Testi-Roastial, aired on May 5 and left a good impression on the viewers, and some of them even consider this episode to be the season's best episode thus far.

The focus of the episode is mainly on Susie, and her experience being roasted at the Friars Club back in the 1970s.

Interestingly, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino chose to shoot the episode on location at the actual Friars Club.

As the roasting unfolds in the dining room, the Palladinos cut to a group of comics who are gathered together at a late-night table.

In a style reminiscent of the film Rashomon, they take turns telling tales about Susie's rise to greatness, and each story is brought to life through flashbacks that we've never seen before.

As the tales get wilder, the humor and entertainment quotient just keeps getting higher.

One Reddit user recognized this as a tribute to one of Woody Allen 's films. According to them, the episode was made in Woody Allen's Broadway Danny Rose Style. Other viewers seem to agree on this one.

Now, for those who don't know, Broadway Danny Rose is a 1984 film directed and co-written by Woody Allen.

The movie is notable for its black-and-white cinematography and its use of a framing device in which a group of show business insiders reminisce about Danny Rose's career over dinner.

The film was critically acclaimed and received two Academy Award nominations, including Best Director for Woody Allen. It is widely considered to be one of Allen's best films.

In the movie, Danny, much like Susie, also rises from the bottom of the barrel by representing unusual and unconventional acts, though not quite as successfully.

The storyline is held together by a group of comedians reminiscing and sharing gossip about Danny Rose at the Carnegie Deli.

Additionally, it's hard not to draw a comparison between Midge's decision not to marry Philip Roth in the show because he doesn't make her laugh and Mia Farrow's real-life relationship with Roth, who was often described as lacking in humor.

It feels like a subtle nod from the writers.

Next episode, titled A House Full of Extremely Lame Horses, will air on Prime Video on May 12.
