Margot Robbie Puts Saoirse Ronan’s Whole Career At Risk With 1 Sentence
But we’re all up for a good cinema battle.
Summary:
- After both Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet starred in Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird and Little Women, fans were sure to see them in more projects together.
- But when neither could make it to Barbie, cinemaholics’ favorite trio parted ways.
- Now, Margot Robbie is ready to take over Ronan’s place as Greta Gerwig’s staple actress.
If there is one thing TV and movie fans can never get enough of, it is celebrity duets. When one professional joins forces with another to create something great, it's always a treat. But when it happens more than once and the results are consistently good, audiences quickly crack the formula and start craving more.
After the success of Lady Bird and Little Women, it was clear that not a duo, but a trio, was forming in the industry. Greta Gerwig, the director behind both films, brought Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet together and allowed them to further develop their already great on-screen chemistry.
While the internet was filled with jokes about all the possible masterpieces the three professionals could create together in the future, neither Ronan nor Chalamet was seen in Gerwig's latest hit, Barbie. Many thought it was the beginning of the end of the era, and sadly, they may have been right.
Greta Gerwig Swaps Saoirse Ronan For Margot Robbie
From the beginning of Barbie's promotion, Greta Gerwig was very open about her ambition to work on bigger productions with bigger budgets and big names behind them. Judging by Barbie's success, it's only fair to assume that the director, having dipped her toes in the waters of mainstream cinema, will stick around and continue to explore her options.
And her stars have no intention of leaving her side, either. At least, that goes for Margot Robbie, who portrayed Barbie herself. The actress admitted her intentions to become a ‘Robert De Niro’ to Gerwig's ‘Martin Scorsese ’ to ET's journalist on the red carpet at the 2023 Gotham Awards.
“What I mean to say is, you have to work with me again at least another four times,” Robbie said jokingly, standing right beside Gerwig during the interview.
Whether it is four more times or at least one more movie of the same quality, we as an audience will be happy with any result. Besides, if there is only one chance to see all three of Greta Gerwig's main actors together, no one would want to miss it anyway.
Barbie is still not available to stream, however, on September 12 it was put up for buying on Amazon, Apple, and other video-on-demand platforms.
