Man of Steel Looks Way Better than The Flash Despite a Decade Between Them, DC Fans Claim

Zach Snyder's take on Superman split the audience back in the day: some fans just can't stand it, and others absolutely love it.

Both sides bring quite a few arguments to the table, but one thing that everyone can agree on is that Snyder's movies look amazing.

Even a decade later, the CGI in Man of Steel, per say, is top-notch, and there's no discussion to be had on this one.

Many modern movies can't boast the same visuals as 2013's Man of Steel. It's completely fine for the genres that don't rely on CGI as heavily, but for superhero or fantasy titles, this is an issue.

Even the most hyped-up installments fail to deliver quality VFX... We're looking at you, The Flash ( 2023).

As revealed by the early viewers who got to watch The Flash before anyone else, the movie's visuals are for the most part clunky and look like they belong in a videogame from early 2010's.

This issue has already been raised after the first trailers started coming out, but now we've got the confirmation: The Flash seriously lacks in terms of CGI quality throughout the entire movie, and it was not a trailer problem.

What are the reasons behind such a massive fallback in terms of visuals, though? Well, there are a few factors that likely affected The Flash in particular — and many other recent movies, too.

For starters, the VFX industry is overwhelmed now. There's been way too many high-budget projects in the works in the past years, and there are simply not enough professionals to keep up with the demand.

Then, the big CGI studios like Weta (the guys that worked on Man of Steel) are busy with other projects, and Warner Bros. has to outsource the VFX for its movies to a bunch of smaller studios all around the world.

This results in the lack of consistency and a highly varying quality of the visuals.

Finally, it's all about planning. Snyder is famous for his clear vision of his movies, and he tends to give the VFX artists clear and concise tasks even prior to actually filming the movie.

Most other directors can't pull this off, and combined with the trend for huge last-second changes in visuals, this results in the poor quality of the final product.

For The Flash, it's likely that all three factors affected the VFX of the movie. Since we already know we're in for some clunky visuals, you'll be better off not concentrating on that should you decide to watch the movie.

According to many respectable people from the industry, The Flash is still a great piece of cinema... Just ignore the CGI. It's not the most important thing in a superhero movie now, is it?
