Looks Like Jon Watts Exited Marvel's 'Fantastic Four' to Do This 'Star Wars' Project
The director initially signed up for directing Marvel's 'Fantastic Four', but ditched the project in April.
Jon Watts has been confirmed to be developing a yet-untitled 'Star Wars ' series after exiting 'Fantastic Four ', according to Vanity Fair.
There were no details about the upcoming project but the code name: 'Grammar Rodeo', which, according to the report, is "a reference to an episode of The Simpsons in which Bart and his schoolmates steal a car and run away for a week, using a phony educational event as an alibi."
The show's events will take place after 'Return of the Jedi', following the fall of the Empire. However, the plot is nothing short of a mystery as of now. The concept, however, is described in Vanity Fair as "a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the '80s".
Fans have connected the dots pretty quickly, suggesting that the 'Grammar Rodeo' sow was apparently the reason for Watts exiting Marvel's 'Fantastic Four'.
And people seem to be really disappointed by Watts' decision, given that the Star Wars franchise has already welcomed a post-'Return of the Jedi' series – 'The Mandalorian '.
Aside from season 3 of 'The Mandalorian', Watts' upcoming series will join 'Obi-Wan Kenobi ', 'Ahsoka ', and 'Andor ' on the Star Wars TV slate. And, given that the director enjoyed tremendous success with his Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland, his 'Star Wars' endeavor certainly has a chance to persuade some fans to hate Disney less for how they treat the franchise.
