Lily-Rose Depp Tries to Justify Nepotism, Gets Roasted on Twitter Instead

Ahead of the premiere of The Idol, Lily-Rose Depp has tried to explain her view on the "nepo baby" label that she frequently faced due to being the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis.

Lily-Rose, however, has something to say to those who accuse her of nepotism. In a new interview with Elle, the actress rips into the term, arguing that it's women who usually hear it towards themselves, and offering an allegory to explain herself.

"It just doesn't make any sense. If somebody's mom or dad is a doctor, & then the kid becomes a doctor, you're not going to be like, 'You're only a doctor because your parent is a doctor.' It's like, 'No, I went to medical school & trained,'" Lily-Rose said.

However, her metaphor fell on deaf ears, as social media users quickly retorted.

"This is the problem with rich people born into privilege. They have literally no perspective on what the average person has to do to just get the resources and opportunities they were born with," Twitter user jasminpigemoji noted.

Many people pointed out that there is nothing wrong with being born into privilege, but what is actually weird is "[pretending that] privilege has nothing to do with their respective success."

Another person decided to pick up on Depp's analogy.

"No one in medical school is graduating kids early cause their parents are doctors. Nepotism Actors have their careee handed to them and we can't deny if their family wasn't famous they would have had a harder time. It's not a bad thing to admit," Twitter user Inkiadk said.

Many fans have reminded Lily-Rose that her acting career cannot possibly be as hard as the journey that ordinary people who aspire to be actors have to take. At the same time, few people actually try to deny her talent or undermine her achievements, simply pointing out that she was privileged to meet the right people at the right time.

But the funniest thing about Lily-Rose's analogy is that she never actually went to acting school, starting her career with a cameo role in the film Tusk, alongside her friend Harley Quinn Smith and her father, as well as the film's director, Kevin Smith.

Still, no matter what one thinks of "nepotism babies", Lily-Rose Depp is now a successful actress and model. Her upcoming show The Idol, created by Sam Levinson and Abel Tesfaye, is set to premiere in 2023.
