Jim Parson's Confession About Geek Culture That Would Drive Sheldon Mad

Hardly any The Big Bang Theory fan would deny that Jim Parsons was a perfect actor to embody Sheldon Cooper with all his quirks and absolute ignorance of basic social cues. However, despite Parsons' impeccable performance, there is one huge thing that makes him very different from his character.

It turns out that Jim is as far away from being a geek as he could possibly be.

We know that geeky staples like Star Trek and Doctor Who are of huge importance to Sheldon and the gang. The genius main character is undeniably the first person to go to if you need some expertise on either physics or Marvel Comics.

Well, the actor that portrayed him is not.

"I'm very frank about certain things, I get asked a lot of science things and I'm like, 'You're kidding'. And even the pop culture… I've never seen Star Trek. I don't know Doctor Who," Parsons revealed to Time.

Now that is one confession Sheldon himself would not love! Still, it's always important to remember that actors are not carbon copies of their characters. For instance, Parsons also mentioned that he is not as book-smart as Sheldon; even though the actor is obviously an intelligent person, he is not a genius. Well, at least Jim is a lot more pleasant in real-life social situations than his Big Bang Theory character.

One similarity he does share with Sheldon Cooper, though: just like Sheldon, Jim is very shy.

After all, Parsons' compelling performance in The Big Bang Theory (and in Young Sheldon as a narrator) allows us to forgive him for not being a Trekkie or a Whovian. Live long and prosper, anyway!
