It's a shame James Gunn is leaving Marvel but Marvel isn't leaving Gunn's heart.

The highly expected Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is in theaters! Whether you've already checked the movie out or not, you probably know the sad news about James Gunn leaving Marvel with the third movie about the Guardians being his last movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In his Twitter, Gunn shared an emotional statement, expressing attachment to the team of space rangers, and mentioned where the inspiration to make this amazing trilogy came from.

11 years ago, Gunn had a meeting with Marvel Studios about doing a Guardians of the Galaxy. Given the relatively similar setting, Star Wars came to his mind.

"I remember driving home & thinking I didn't want to make a movie LIKE Star Wars, but a movie that made people FEEL like Star Wars made me feel as a kid," Gunn said.

Gunn is grateful to Star Wars for inspiring him and helping him create such a great project.

GOTG was a risky project for Marvel — a movie about an unknown team that didn't have even a half of the Avengers fan base and popularity.

But somehow Gunn managed to make this team popular.

Fans are not sure which of the MCU movies will achieve classic status or remain a topic of discussion for years to come.

However, one thing they are confident about is that the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy will be among the most cherished Marvel movies in the future.

James Gunn has managed to create something that surpasses the confines of the comic book movie genre, and irrespective of what happens next, he has cemented his place in the realm of blockbuster filmmaking.

We are very lucky to have such great filmmakers as Gunn create awesome movies in the MCU. In recent years we've seen Marvel losing its quality and therefore, popularity.

Some people think the reason is very simple — tiredness from superhero movies. But James Gunn proves them wrong and it's almost absolutely obvious that the third movie about the Guardians will be a success at the box office.
