The actor retired without any official announcement and many fans have been wondering for years what exactly happened.

Summary:

  • Many Hollywood stars continue to work despite their age, but Jack Nicholson is an exception
  • The actor quietly retired in 2010 and has not appeared on screen since
  • Lou Adler, a friend of Nicholson's, shed some light on what the actor has been up to since then

Making great movies requires passion, so it is quite natural that many of Hollywood's veterans continue to work despite their age, like Martin Scorsese, or only retire due to health problems, like Michael Caine.

However, this is not always the case, as Jack Nicholson quietly quit acting for a completely different, but very understandable reason.

Having starred in many cult classics, from 1980's The Shining to 2006's The Departed, Nicholson rightly remains one of the most famous actors in the world, with a fruitful career that began in the 1950s.

But after starring in 2010's romantic comedy How Do You Know, the actor hasn't appeared in a single role on the big screen or television in thirteen years, so many fans didn't even notice his absence.

So what exactly happened? Well, the actor's friend, Lou Adler, best known as a music and film producer, as well as the owner of the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, shed some light on why Nicholson vanished during his appearance on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast.

What Is Jack Nicholson Doing Now?

According to Adler, Nicholson, now 86 years old, is doing what many people in his position would have done and is simply enjoying the quiet life to the fullest.

The producer revealed that a friend of his recently offered the actor a role, to which Nicholson replied that he just "doesn't want to do it" because he spends his time doing simple and pleasant things like sitting under a tree and reading a book.

Adler concluded by saying that the actor just wants to "be quiet" and "live the life he wants."

Fans are actually surprised that more actors and filmmakers don't follow Nicholson's footsteps and just enjoy the results of their hard work after spending decades creating entertainment for audiences.

He definitely deserves some rest and has nothing more to prove to anyone, so even if some of his colleagues continue to work against all odds, to each his own.
