It's a Tight Race, But [Spoiler] Emerges as the Worst Grey's Anatomy Character

During Grey's Anatomy 19-season run, some characters became fan favorites while others had viewers so fed up that they took to Reddit to name these annoying characters in a discussion aimed to determine who was the worst in Grey's Anatomy. Almost 4k Redditors had taken part in the poll accompanying the discussion and the results were quite surprising with two related characters making the top 3.

Ellis Grey came third with 723 votes. Though Meredith Grey's mother had been a gifted surgeon, she was a neglectful parent and unnecessarily cruel to her daughter. She not only cheated on her husband with a married man but also took her kid away from her father just to neglect her later. At one point, she slit her wrists in front of young Meredith. This neglectful behavior made fans hate the character and vote for her.

"I think what drew the line for me with Ellis was learning about her attempted suicide IN FRONT OF HER CHILD," a fan wrote.

Teddy Altman came second with 751 votes. Teddy is the only top 3 character that is still part of Grey's Anatomy. Many fans noted in the comments that both she and her husband Owen Hunt were the two most annoying characters in the medical drama. Teddy exited the show at the end of Season 8 but returned in Season 14. After her return, Teddy changed a lot and became one of the least favorite characters.

"I like early seasons Teddy, and I don't much care for later seasons," one of the fans commented.

Surprisingly, the most hated Grey's Anatomy character turned out to be Meredith and Lexie's father, Thatcher Grey. He was a complicated recurring character who, just like his ex-wife, made Meredith's life hard.

After her parents divorced, Meredith hadn't seen her father for 20 years. However, when Thatcher and his new family including his new wife Susan and two daughters Lexie and Molly appeared in adult Meredith's life, she tried to bond with them.

Unfortunately, Thatcher made it too difficult. He was constantly pushing Meredith and his other daughters away and behaved in ways that infuriated many fans. One time, Thatcher even slapped Meredith. This assault made 930 fans vote for him.

"He slapped her, humiliated her at her working place and never tried to apologize. He's a horrible father and human being," one of the fans explained.
