I’m a Demon Slayer Fan, But Season 4 Is a Complete Disappointment

An absolutely meaningless story is not what I expected from this anime.

Demon Slayer once proved that to create a quality work, it is not necessary to invent something shocking and unprecedented – it is enough to approach the formula that has been tested for decades with sincere love.

In essence, Demon Slayer is a classic shonen, where the main character experiences loss, decides to become stronger and stop the forces of evil, and then in endless battles finds loyal friends and rivals, each of whom has their own sad story.

But at the same time, Demon Slayer was truly spectacular. Touching memories and dialogues, jokes and bloody battles alternated here in a perfect pace and proportions.

Season 4 Was Downright Dull

However, the just-concluded fourth season did not live up to my expectations or those of many fans. We waited so long to get seven episodes of a story that could have fit in two, and one really exciting and important episode.

And I'm not the only one disappointed with the fifth chapter of the anime.

“This entire season could’ve been a 90min movie in itself and we wouldn’t lose anything. It’s the anime equivalent of “this meeting could’ve been an email,” Reddit user ImABattleMercy pointed out.

The Main Problem Lies in the Original Manga

The training arc is not the most interesting and exciting in the original manga, and it can even be called a filler one. This season was not the richest in fights, for which the viewers love Demon Slayer. At the same time, the creators understood this: that is why they showed all the events in eight episodes.

However, even if you understand where the problem comes from, the fourth season of Demon Slayer is still almost unbearable to watch for those who loved this anime for its action.

The project seemed to have changed its genre and became almost iyashikei, an anime where nothing happens and the characters just live a measured life, contemplating the beauty of the world and enjoying little things like good weather and a delicious cake for tea.

The Last Arc Will Be Turned into Three Movies

Almost immediately after the season finale, it was announced that the final arc of Koyoharu Gotouge's manga, titled Final Battle, would be split into three movies and released in theaters.

It is not yet clear how exactly the plot will be divided, but rumors are already circulating around the release: perhaps each of the "attack series" on Muzan will be designated as a separate movie. The first two movies will deal with the adaptation of the sub-arc Infinity Castle and the last one with Sunrise Countdown.

There are no further details yet, but the studio seems to want to break their own record: the previous movie based on the manga, Mugen Train, became the highest-grossing full-length anime in history.
