This is what happened with the fans of How I Met Your Mother, an iconic sitcom, airing from 2005 to 2014 on CBS. The story of five friends - Ted, Marshall, Lily, Barney and Robin - ended the way no one expected and ever wanted for their beloved characters.

The ninth season of the show revolved around the preparation for the anticipated wedding of Barney and Robin, which eventually happens despite their fears and reflections on their past lives. Besides, it featured lots of flashbacks and flashforwards, introducing the character of the Mother, the much-awaited love fate for Ted.

Everything was reasonable here until the final episode. It reveals that Barney and Robin separate after three years of marriage, with Barney being shown as a happy single father of a daughter from his one-night stand.

An even more tragic ending is prepared for Ted, whose wife dies from an illness, leaving him with two children, to whom he's been telling the whole story. They assure him to return Robin, so the very last scene features Ted going to his former love interest’s place with an intention to reconcile with her.

There is no doubt that such a finale would satisfy the fans’ need and fit the show’s previous development much better than the original one, presenting much more faithful fates for the main characters.
