House of the Dragon Season 2 In Real Danger Due To Looming New Strike
If the SAG-AFTRA strike takes effect, the ongoing production of season 2 could be put on hold entirely.
Another major Hollywood strike is looming on the horizon, and this time it could affect the film and television industry even more than the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.
The clock is ticking as the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists or SAG-AFTRA contract expires at midnight this Wednesday, but negotiations are far from successful, at least for now.
If no compromise is reached, which seems less likely by the minute, the resulting strike will affect countless movies and TV shows, and HBO's House of the Dragon is one of them.
The second season of the prequel series is still in production, having recently wrapped filming in Spain and Wales, but the process is far from over as it continues at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in London. Or, in light of the aforementioned events, is planned to continue.
If the strike goes into effect, the actors will not be allowed to work on any projects, up to and including participating in marketing campaigns for those that have already finished filming.
This puts the second season of House of the Dragon in a rather dire situation, as reshoots and rewrites are already not allowed due to the WGA strike, and taking the actors out of the process will obviously put the project on hold.
Although fans are understandably depressed by such a turn of events, they realize that the only way to resolve the crisis is for the studios to meet the unions' demands.
They say that the fact that they haven't reached an agreement only proves the stupidity of the Hollywood bosses, who are already suffering financial losses and the situation will only get worse.
Considering that the WGA strike has been active for over two months now, there is no way to predict how much longer the situation will last if the second strike comes into play.
While the release date of House of Dragons season 2 hasn't been announced, it was expected sometime in 2024, but if the filming process is put on hold, it might take even more time to be released.
