These are moments that could very much be part of a horror movie.

Some movies that were supposed to be innocent, unexpectedly and out of nowhere throw in certain elements that absolutely horrify the audiences.

Movie enthusiasts shared instances of such scenes on Reddit. Let's break them down.

Scarabs (Mummy returns)

Both Mummy and its sequel feature some horrifying scenes of people getting eaten alive by scarabs. The most memorable of them is the scene of the group of diggers being attacked and eaten by scarab beetles.

Donkey (Pinocchio)

The scene from the 1940 animated movie Pinocchio where Lampwick turns into a donkey while screaming for his mom is just terrifying, especially for children.

The acid lake (Dante's Peak)

In Dante's Peak there was a scene where the grandma jumps out of the boat into the acid lake. The scene is hard to watch as the grandma screams in pain while boiling alive.

Huge worms (King Kong)

In the scene from King Kong where the characters end up in a pit full of giant bugs, Andy Serkis' character is eaten alive by the giant worms, which is terrifying in itself.

Experiments (Fire in the Sky)

The 1993 sci-fi movie Fire in the Sky featured a scene of the medical experiments conducted by aliens. Oh man, it still horrifies people to this day.

The Boo Box (Hook)

The movie about Peter Pan's old foe had a scene where they lock a guy, who was actually played by Glenn Close, in the chest called The Boo Box and then put scorpions inside.

The Hospital (Spider-Man 2)

In Spider-Man 2, Doctor Octavius ends up in the hospital after his experiment. His awakening is arguably the most terrifying moment in superhero movies as he kills all the doctors with his sentient tentacles.

Face peeling (Poltergeist)

Even though 1982's Poltergeist was a horror film, it was still rated PG. However, the scene where a man peels off his own face isn't really PG, and in fact, is frightening even for an adult.
