Being stable, however, would be more than enough.

Even if you haven't seen an episode of The Boys in your life, there's a good chance you've seen at least one image of Homelander and have a brief understanding of who he is.

A superhero supervillain raised in a lab, he turns out to be the most powerful evil that no one can challenge.

But no matter how many people he kills or crimes he commits, there's no shortage of Homelander fans on the Internet ready to tear you apart if you voice an unpopular opinion. Admitting the villain's dark nature seems to be the hardest pill for the fandom to swallow.

Of course, it's nice to see people empathize with a character because of his abusive upbringing, but the reality is: Homelander would still never be the hero you want him to be.

While some fans may truly believe that in an alternate universe where Homelandar didn't suffer from being raised like a lab rat, he would have gone to the other extreme and become a pure good guy like Superman, the majority agree that it wouldn't be possible either way.

If he had been raised like a normal child in a normal family, he might have developed more compassion for others, and that part is true. He would also be less likely to end up as a narcissist, although some argue that this could be genetically predetermined to some degree.

That doesn't mean that Homelander wouldn't be subject to the same flaws as other people. If anything, the chances are that he would become your average Joe with no particularly great or bad qualities to his name.

This prospect may not be as exciting as thinking of him as the savior of the world, but it's simply more realistic.

Another scenario suggests that nothing would really change. The only thing Homelander's lab upbringing has given him is a level of insecurity that sometimes helps his enemies get to him more easily.

If you were to remove that by adding a loving family, there is a possibility that he would grow up even worse than he already is.

To really change anything, he would have to have a completely different story with a completely different level of power. But that wouldn't be a Homelander we all know and some of us love, so the result wouldn't be worth the effort.
